Return of the Repressed Art (Native Son) by Vance Anderson

 My digital art piece centered around the idea of Return of the Repressed features characters from Native Son. The main focus is Bigger Thomas standing ominously over the characters he was violent or spiteful towards as revenge for how he was treated in life such as the Daltons (especially Mary), Gus, Bessie and Britten as they look onward fearfully. The atmosphere is dark and Bigger’s size is exaggerated to create a terrifying image. The size of the artwork is 750 x 1334 pixels

 Khailya Jones Ms. Harris ENGL 2016-44378 December 3, 2021  Rememory  Southern gothic is a genre in literature that encompasses horror elements such as supernatural, disturbing characters, grotesque history, etc. with the purpose to explore social issues. Black gothic is what a person defines as the southern horror genre in art and literature with the element of race included and confined what is horror to the Black community. The plethora of authors from the past and present who use such a broad genre and trope bring stories to life.
