Black Gothic?
What is
Black Gothic? Black Gothic is black horror in ways that attest to repetitive
violence against black bodies and the relentless haunting of the traumatic
pasts. To me, Black Gothic is all about something else. To me, Black Gothic is
about stereotyping African Americans and the fear of the progress of African
Americans.
Stereotypes affect black society
in such a negative way. People are judging books by their cover or should i say
their skin? People aren’t even taking time out to get to know some African
Americans, they’re just judging and basing off things they see on tv or hear of
which is violence and harsh language. It stops african Americans from achieving
certain goals and having things. Fear is also a big factor. Other races fear
what African Americans can do and achieve if they’re treated equally and the
same. They know that they’ll take over things and it scares them that they
won’t be in charge of things anymore.
Back then society was harsh. From
slavery and killings to racial oppression and segregation. Life wasn’t fair.
People were getting sold like old shoes and hanged and killed all because of
they’re skin tone. Today’s society is different, there isnt any slavery that is
broadcast or segregated. People have kind of come together to help mend
things. There isnt any black and white water fountains and things like that.
People are allowed to sit in one place under the same roof while being black and
white. There are some similarities though. I believe slavery still exists but
in different ways. Through jobs, and government.
To me thats what Black Gothic truly
is. Just stereotypes and fear. People are scared of what we can do and will do
as a community and as a whole, so they salt us down and make sure that they
keep a foot on our necks and have a hold over us. Whether is mentally,
physically, or financially. They’re afraid and they should be.
